Native Residential Construction Worker Program 296A - Level 1

Build A Tiny Home!

Learn about construction and house building by building a tiny home from scratch! The Native Residential Construction Worker Program is designed to cover all aspects of building a home. Students will be introduced to blue prints, framing, roofing, floors, electrical, plumbing and window/door installation.

What's included?

Students will be registered as Apprentices and be invited to LVL 2 after successful graduation.
Class size is limited to 12 students and will be based on a first-come first-serve, completed applications process.
  • WHEN: February 2nd, 2026 - March 27, 2026
  • WHERE: 523 Algoma St. N, Thunder Bay ON, Matawa Training and Wellness Centre
  • WHO CAN APPLY: Matawa community members living in Thunder Bay, (LL#58 will need to get funding from the LL#58 ISETS department to participate)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Have completed High School and have your OSSD transcripts
  • Have proof of SIN #
  • Have a valid Status Card
  • Fully complete the KKETS Universal Application Form 
  • Be ready to attend each day, possibly on weekends

KKETS SPONSORSHIP INCLUDES:

  • City bus pass to get to training location and back
  • PPE such as work boots, safety goggles, gloves
  • Start up kits (measuring tape, hammer, toolbelt etc.)
